Peroxide Treatment in Chemical Pulp Bleaching

چکیده
Effluents from pulp and paper mills are highly toxic and are a major source of water pollution. Nearly 250 chemicals have been identified in effluents which are produced at different stages of papermaking. Their toxic nature is derived from the presence of several naturally occurring and xenobiotic compounds which are formed and released during various stages of papermaking. If applied under appropriate condition, hydrogen peroxide is very effective bleaching chemical. This article reviews the origins and effects of major pollutants present in pulp and paper mill effluents and deals with the bleaching of Jute Cady pulp with chlorine and peroxide treatment and identification of various chlorophenolics compounds. The results show that there is a reduction of 52% in total chlorophenolic compound in the CEH effluent when E stage is changed to Ep. and the COD and color values are reduced by 30% and 33% respectively as E stage is changed to Ep stage in Jute Cady pulp.

Influence of Fungal Enzyme Pre-treatment on Totally Chlorine-free (TCF) Bleaching of Dimethyl Formamid Bagasse Pulp
A study was carried out on totally chlorine-free (TCF) bleachability of dimethyl formamide (DMF) treated bagasse pulps exposed to CZ-3 and FP 90031-sp strains of white-rot fungus Ceriporiopsis subvermispora. This process involved an oxygen and peroxide stage bleaching sequence. The effect of enzymatic stage on bleachability properties was studied and compared with control pulps, processed witho...
متن کاملIMPACT OF ACID WASHING AND CHELATION ON Mg(OH)2- BASED HYDROGEN PEROXIDE BLEACHING OF MIXED HARDWOODS CMP AT A HIGH CONSISTENCY
The removal of transition metal ions is crucial for improving the efficiency of subsequent peroxide bleaching. Acid-washing and chelation have been proposed for such a purpose. However, their influences on the Mg(OH)2-based peroxide bleaching of hardwood pulps at a high consistency have not been well documented in the literature. In this work, we studied the influence of acid-washing using sulf...
متن کاملMg(OH)2-Based Hydrogen Peroxide Bleaching of Deinked Pulp
Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) has been used as an alkali source in conventional hydrogen peroxide bleaching. In the present work, partial and total replacement of NaOH with magnesium hydroxide (Mg(OH)2) as the alkali source for hydrogen peroxide bleaching of deinked pulp was studied. The bleached pulp was studied with respect to brightness, post color (P.C.) number, and mechanical properties (i.e., t...
